Tata’s SUV boom in the market, selling 10,000 units in just one month

In recent times, Tata Motors has been moving towards greater success with strong sales in the Indian market. Last month, the brand sold a total of 28,017 passenger vehicles and the Nexon compact SUV was the best-selling model in their line-up. In August 2021, Tata Nexon crossed the sales milestone of 10,006 units, which is spectacular. In the same month last year, in August 2020, Nexon sold a total of 5,179 units, a year-on-year increase of 93.20 per cent in August this year.

However, with sales of 10,287 units in July 2021, monthly sales of SUVs have declined by 2.73 per cent. The biggest reason for Tata Nexon’s popularity is its security features. The SUV comes with many standard safety features like dual airbags, ABS with EBD, child safety lock, traction control, ESC, rollover mitigation, ISOFix child seat mount, hill assist etc. The car has received a 5-star safety rating in terms of passenger safety and a 3-star safety rating in terms of child safety by Global NCAP.

Tata Nexon’s design has come to the liking of consumers. In this compact SUV you are given the option of sunroof, petrol and diesel engines, which come with auto transmission. The Tata Nexon is powered by a 1.2-liter turbo petrol engine for 120hp and 170Nm. The 1.5-liter diesel engine is built with 110hp and 260Nm. Both engines are available with 6-speed manual or AMT. The Nexon has an starting price (ex-showroom) of Rs 7.28 lakh.

Total sales of carmaker Tata Motors rose to 57,995 units in August from 36,505 units in the same month last year. Notably, the company’s total domestic sales increased by 53 per cent to 54,190 units in the month under review as compared to last year. Further, the company’s total commercial vehicle sales increased to 29,781 units in August from 17,889 units in the same month last year.

Increase in sales of Maruti Suzuki
The total sales of automobile company Maruti Suzuki India stood at 1,30,699 units in August as against 1,24,624 units in the same month of 2020. Total sales in August included 1,05,775 units of domestic sales, 4,305 units of other Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) off-tech and exports of 20,619 units. The lack of electronic components has affected the company’s sales volume in August 2021, the company said in a statement. The company has taken all possible measures to limit the adverse effects.

MG Motor’s sales increase by 51%
Escorts told the stock exchange that it had sold a total of 7,268 units in the same month last year. The company said it expects sales to increase during the festive season. MG Motor said its retail sales in August were 4,315 units, up 51 percent. In August 2020, the company had sold 2,851 units. Ashok Leyland’s sales rose 48 percent. The company sold a total of 9,360 vehicles in August.

Toyota doubles sales
Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) said its domestic wholesale sales doubled in August this year compared to August 2020, reaching 12,772 units. The company had sold 5,555 units in the same month last year. TKM Joint General Manager (Sales and Strategic Marketing) Vs. “InnovaCrista and Fortuner continue to dominate their segments and both models are in good demand,” Visselin Sigamani said in a statement. Apart from this, Glanza and Urban Cruiser are also in good demand.
