India: Coronavirus effect on the age of people, life span reduced by two years

The corona pandemic has had a tremendous impact in India. It has also had an effect on the age of the people living in the country. According to a study by the International Institute for Population Studies (IIPS), the life span or life expectancy of people in India has now reduced by almost two years due to corona.

Research has said that the life span of men from the time of birth decreased from an average of 69.5 years in 2019 to 67.5 years in 2020. On the other hand, life expectancy among women has come down from 72 years in 2019 to 69.8 years in 2020.

IIPS Assistant Professor Suryakant Yadav said that this study was published in BMC Public Health on Thursday. He said that life expectancy at birth means how many years on average a newborn can live if the surrounding conditions remain constant in his future as well.

The new study also looked at the disparity duration of a human’s lifetime. It was found that most deaths from corona occurred in the age group of 35 to 69 years. The report said that in 2020, there were additional deaths in the 35-79 year age group compared to the normal year. This has been one of the main reasons for the decline in life expectancy in India.
