The year 2021 has been very action-packed for the scooter industry in India. Some new players entered this segment who have redefined the rules of the business game and helped in the growth of the overall scooter market.

Yamaha Aerox 155 Black
Yamaha Aerox 155 launched in September, the Aerox 155 turned out to be one of the most powerful scooters in the Indian market. The scooter uses the same technology, engine and platform as the popular YZF-R15. The Metallic Black color version of the Yamaha Aerox 155 is priced at Rs 1,29,000 ex-showroom Delhi.

The scooter generates power from a 155 cc Blue Core engine equipped with Variable Valve Actuation (VVA). It is a liquid-cooled, 4-stroke, SOHC, 4-valve motor that comes mated to a CVT transmission. This engine produces a maximum power output of 15 PS at 8,000 rpm and 13.9 Nm of peak torque at 6,500 rpm.

The company has also given it a smart motor generator system for silent engine start. Apart from this, it also gets a stop and start system to increase its overall fuel efficiency.

But the new Race XP Edition, launched in the year 2021, has been given many segment-first features, which has taken it a level higher. TVS Ntorq 125 Race XP scooter gets an updated Smartxonnect connectivity feature and dual riding modes. Smartxonect is a unique Bluetooth-enabled technology that has been integrated with an exclusive TVS Connect mobile app. It is available on both Android and Apple platforms.

This scooter is sound
TVS claims that the new scooter has a first-of-its-kind voice assist feature in its SmartXonect system. It includes several connectivity functions like mode change, navigation, console brightness adjustment and do not disturb.

The special thing is that 15 different voice commands can be given to this scooter. Through which the rider can toggle its features on and off just by speaking. TVS claims that the navigation function of the scooter also gets a feature like ‘Save Address’.

The TVS Ntorq 125 Race XP scooter continues to be powered by a 125cc single-cylinder engine with Race Tuned Fuel Injection (RT-Fi) technology. This engine generates power of 10.2 PS and torque of 10.8 Nm. It can run at a top speed of 98 kmph. It is being claimed to be the most powerful scooter in its segment.

2022 Aprilia SR 160 and SR 125
The Aprilia SR 160 received a major cosmetic upgrade in the year 2021. The newly updated 2022 Aprilia SR 160 scooter is priced at Rs 1.17 lakh, ex-showroom, in Pune in the Indian market. Compared to the old models, the new models have become costlier by around Rs 12,000 to Rs 13,000.

The updated Aprilia SR 160 gets 14-inch alloy wheels and a 6-litre fuel tank. The under-seat storage space is 11-litres. The 2022 Aprilia SR 160 is equipped with CBS (Combined Braking System). These scooters come with a full digital instrument cluster borrowed from the SXR 160. The display gives information about speed, travel and fuel consumption along with tachometer.
